Historical Colonnades

The project of the antique-style colonnade was brought from Italy in 1930 by Batumi doctor Ivane Mchedlidze. The construction was supervised by the city s chief architect, Pavle Nadareishvili , and the construction work was carried out by the Honored Architect of Georgia Bogdan Kirakosyan. The colonnade was built in 1934, as evidenced by the mosaic inscription made there. The antique colonnade, which served as the main gate of the boulevard, is today a monument of cultural heritage and is recognized as one of the most important and characteristic sights of Batumi.
