Michael D'Alfons

The French noble gardener Michael D'Alfons was at the forefront of the development of Batumi Boulevard. After Ressler's death in 1884, the successfully started work was taken over by the French nobleman and famous gardener Michael D'Alfons. He was appointed the chief gardener of the city and it is with his name that the development of the boulevard in the French style is associated. His contribution to the planning of the boulevard is so great that in historical sources, D'Alfons is referred as the "kind genius of the Batumi coast". He enriched the boulevard with valuable and rare plants brought from his own garden in Chakvi. In 2012 the bronze sculpture of Michael D'alfons was installed in the boulevard, facing the century-old eucalyptus planed by himself.
